Start by holding your main Drill, then switch to your Blue Cheese Drill, activate Speed Boost, then switch back to your main drill. Therefore you should prioritize Tick Thresholds over Fortune to a reasonable extent (just don't literally dump all powder into Speed and you should be fine). These are critical for increasing profits, and it's generally better to have a lower Tick Threshold instead of having a bit more Fortune. Once you reach a certain amount of Mining Speed, the amount of ticks it takes to break a block gets lowered, aka you've reached a new Tick Threshold. What's a Tick Threshold? Each tick is 0.05s, and each block takes a certain amount of ticks to break.

How you upgrade your HOTM perks is really important, you want to reach the lowest reasonable Tick Threshold for your powder and tool. There's also another major benefit, it gives 50 more speed than the Sky Mall tree, meaning you can reach lower tick thresholds easier. It's about 2.5% worse than Sky Mall when you have the CDR and yet you don't have to wait for a 5/22 chance, making it way more consistent. This will be patched soon, but until it is you should use it. If you disable Front Loaded by right clicking on it in the HOTM tree (make sure to also disable Efficient Miner), it will still give you the Fortune and Speed for some reason but the buff never goes away. DON'T USE IT!įront Loaded is the more consistent and recommended HOTM tree. Attributes don't matter but Mana Pool is nice for more Etherwarping if you feel like paying a bit extra for it.ĮDIT: FRONT LOADED IS NOW PATCHED. The reforge for all equipment should be Glistening (from the "Shiny Prism" reforge stone) and you should of course recomb it eventually. It requires Combat 24 though, so if you don't have that yet you should get it ASAP. A Ruby Engine might be better at semi-low Fortunes like 1.2k, but you'll have to calculate that yourself.Īlso, Mining Speed on the Gauntlet might be bugged to not give as much as it says (it's been a while so idk for sure, sry) whereas on the Jasper Drill it 100% works, so that might also be a reason to use the Jasper Drill with decent or even lesser parts than recommended since Tick Thresholds are really important to lower (again, more details later in the guide).Įquipment can give you a lot of Fortune, and it's not that expensive, so you should definitely be using it. I would suggest using this calculator to determine which will be better, but if you don't want to here's the basic idea:īelow ~1k Fortune, you just need a Sunny Side Omelette for it to be better than a Gauntlet.Ībove ~1k Fortune but below an insane amount like ~2k, you'll want a Sapphire-Polished Drill Engine and Sunny Side Omelette. This doesn't scale well into later progression since losing 2 Pristine for tons of Fortune is only viable for this one point, but for now it's good. Jasper Drill is worse than a Gauntlet on its own, but once you put parts on it it'll be temporarily better than a Gauntlet. Its use case is basically for when you're transitioning to a 655 but can't fully buy it yet.

I would not recommend going below a Gemstone Gauntlet since it's cheap and surprisingly good for the price. Once again, just use the best mining tool you can afford, whether that's a Divan's Drill, 655, Jasper Drill (at some points), or Gauntlet.

So I think you should only upgrade from Sorrow to Divan when you can afford 5/5 Divan. You'll also need to sell the 3/5 Divan to upgrade to 5/5 Divan, and 5/5 Divan is honestly not even that much more expensive than 3/5, making the time you'll have 3/5 very little, meaning you'll have a lot of downtime when you try to sell your armor. You lose a significant amount of Mining Speed from losing those Ambers, and MINING SPEED IS IMPORTANT. When you're in 3/5 Divan you'll almost definitely be using 2 Jade and 1 Topaz per piece. When you're in Sorrow you'll be using 1 Jade, 1 Topaz, and 1 Amber per piece. This isn't necessarily because it'll give you less coins, but it screws with your progression. In my opinion, 3/5 Divan armor is WORSE than max Sorrow.
